The Delegation of People's Medical Publishing House Visits Guangdong Pharmaceutical University for Collaborative Textbook Development

 

 

On the afternoon of May 10th, Du Xian, a Party Committee member, director, and editor-in-chief of People's Medical Publishing House (PMPH), led a delegation from PMPH's Pharmacy Center, Marketing Center, and South China Branch to our university to investigate the development of medical and pharmaceutical textbooks. The symposium was attended by Zhai Lixiang, as Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee and President, along with representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Graduate School, Library, and relevant colleges, with Vice President Yang Quan presiding over the meeting.


Zhai warmly welcomed Du and his delegation, congratulating PMPH on its fruitful achievements over the past 70 years. He expressed sincere gratitude for their long-term support and concern for our university's talent cultivation, education, teaching, and cultural inheritance career.

Our principal also emphasized that as we deeply implement the education on studying and implementing Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era within the Party, and through extensive investigations and research, PMPH closely integrates the requirements of the Healthy China strategy and the key work of national health. They conduct research and provide guidance on textbook development at our university. This endeavor holds significant implications for promoting medical education reform and advancing the high-quality development of educational materials at our institution. He hoped that the publishing house would continue to support and care for our development, especially in enhancing consensus and strengthening communication in the field of learning source advancement, fostering a closer, comprehensive, and sustainable strategic cooperation relationship. This will facilitate resource sharing, joint project construction, and the exchange of achievements, thereby promoting reforms in medical education and teaching, cultivating high-quality medical talent, and contributing to the establishment of a strong educational nation and a healthy China.

Du expressed gratitude for our long-standing support to their publishing career and congratulated us on the recent rapid progress. He pointed out that Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (GDPU), in its 65 years of growth, has always adhered to the motto of "learning from Chinese and Western medicine, saving the world with the art of healing," and promoted the school spirit of "striving for excellence and embracing innovation." This has strongly promoted the reform and innovation in the cultivation of medical and health talents.

The editor-in-chief of PMPH introduced the organization’s broad range of publications, encompassing education, academia, popular science literature, digitization of ancient books and rare editions, international bilingual textbooks, and digital materials. He emphasized that refining textbooks is a vital foundation for talent cultivation. He expressed the desire to establish comprehensive strategic cooperation with GDPU, highlighting the characteristics of "pharmaceutical-focused, integration of medicine and healthcare, fusion of pharmaceuticals and engineering." This collaboration includes deepening partnerships in pharmacy, particularly with preventive medicine, and exploring new horizons. The objective is to stimulate fresh momentum and leverage advantages, promote high-quality development, and transform teachers’ educational practices, teaching research, and scientific achievements into innovative educational resources for the modern era.

During the meeting, representatives from both sides exchanged views and discussed the compilation and use of medical and pharmaceutical textbooks. They put forward suggestions and expectations on innovative textbook construction, academic works, and intelligent big data flourishing. The purpose is to deeply study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches and instructions through practical actions, taking the opportunity of theme education. This will promote the high-quality development of medical education, teaching, and talent cultivation.
