Students from School of Foreign Languages Won First Prize in the South China Regional Competition of the 25th "FLTRP Cup" National English Debating Competition for College Students


On April 14th and 15th, the 25th "FLTRP Cup" National English Debating Competition for College Students, organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, was held online. Over 100 teams from universities in the South China region, including Sun Yat-sen University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and National University of Defense Technology, participated in the competition. Two debaters, Cai Danlin (Class 202, English major) and Liu Cuisi (Class 214, English major) were guided by Associate Professor Zhang Yin from the School of Foreign Languages. After intense competition, our two participants won first prize in the South China Regional Competition and successfully advanced to the national finals.

It is reported that the "FLTRP Cup" National English Debating Competition for College Students is a prestigious, large-scale, and professional foreign language event in China. For four consecutive years, it has been included in the "Chinese Universities' Innovative Talents Cultivation and Discipline Competition Ranking" published by the Higher Education Society of the Ministry of Education. The competition consists of campus selections, regional competitions, and the national finals. The competition guides debaters to address questions of the times and the world from a youthful perspective, and effectively cultivates cultural confidence and enhances spiritual strength through thoughtful debates. In the competition, the two students started from real-life examples, expressed factual viewpoints through skillful and passionate speeches, and demonstrated their ideals and aspirations. They showcased the spirit of seeking truth through debates, facing the future with youthful vigor, and striving to become outstanding young individuals in the new era who are idealistic, responsible, resilient, and willing to work hard.
